A practical research workflow
Validate a SaaS Idea with Search Evidence
Search evidence can sharpen a SaaS hypothesis. It cannot tell you, on its own, whether someone will adopt or pay for the product. Build a ledger that separates what you observed from what you still need to test.

Make the idea falsifiable
Editorial teaching example: a hypothetical weekly product-feedback digest for a small SaaS team. Queries, routes and decisions below are practice material, not a customer study or measured keyword demand. No measured search volume, difficulty, revenue or ranking outcome is assigned to these candidates.
Hypothesis: a small SaaS product lead will use a source-linked weekly feedback digest because preparing the review currently takes too much manual work. The riskiest assumptions are recurring pain, access to source conversations, switching effort and willingness to pay.
Find an app idea first if you have no concrete user task. If you already have one, resist collecting more ideas until you know which assumption the next piece of evidence tests.
Build the evidence ledger
| Signal | Evidence / status | What it supports | What it does not prove | Next check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Demand language | Teaching candidates: weekly product feedback digest; feedback digest template. Search demand not measured. | Two possible tasks to investigate. | Frequency, intent or willingness to buy. | Run keyword research; inspect result formats; interview the current task owner. |
| Existing supply | Canny’s official product describes feedback collection and AI-assisted organization; review current features. | This is an existing product category, not an empty market. | A missing weekly summary feature or a gap for our proposed tool. | Inspect current documentation; compare the exact weekly review output. |
| Monetization | No buyer interview, paid pilot or price test in this teaching case. | No conclusion yet. | Competitor pricing or keyword CPC does not validate our price. | Offer a manual digest pilot; ask who approves spend and what is being replaced. |
| Delivery | Hypothesis: collect authorized excerpts, group requests and link sources. | A small manual prototype is possible. | Reliable connectors, security compliance or automatic accuracy. | Get permission for one source set and verify every item with the task owner. |
| Distribution | Public discussions and keyword research can locate language and possible channels. | A route to further investigation. | Cheap acquisition, rankings or conversion. | Use permitted outreach; record qualified responses separately from traffic. |
Choose a small experiment and a stop decision
Illustrative experiment: ask three consenting product leads who already prepare a weekly feedback review to walk through last week’s process. Before building integrations, produce one manual digest from an authorized sample. Have each lead check source accuracy and make a real prioritization decision from it.
Predeclare what to record: current workflow time, missing sources, corrections, whether the artifact gets used and whether a second review or paid pilot is requested. Three is an experiment size for this exercise, not a universal validation threshold. Do not turn a polite compliment into purchase intent.
If source access is impractical, investigate a different input. If the weekly digest is already handled well by their tool, test a different narrow job or stop. If interest exists but nobody uses the artifact, revise the workflow before coding a product.
Keep gaps visible in your validation template
The case conclusion is “not validated”: we have a specific task and visible existing supply, but no measured query demand, interviews, authorized workflow trial or payment evidence. Missing evidence is a useful result.
Download the worked evidence ledger and the blank idea-validation template. Explore related website research and revenue cases for additional leads, checking their sources and periods separately. Then use SaaS keyword research to investigate the chosen task.
Check your own seed keyword
Move from a proposed task to keyword evidence. Custom research follows the existing account and credit limits.
