Google Search Operators for SaaS Research

Use targeted queries to locate original discussions, existing products and documentation for a software idea. Search is a discovery step: open the source before treating a snippet as evidence.

Topic text is converted to words. Nothing is searched until you open a Google link. Search queries are then shared with Google.

A compact operator reference

Queries for a product-feedback investigation
SyntaxExamplePurposeLimit
site:site:reddit.com "product feedback"Locate discussions on one domain. Not a complete inventory; a result needs source verification.
Quotation marks"product feedback" softwareKeep a phrase together while exploring product supply.A narrow phrase can omit useful variants; retry unquoted separately.
Minus"product feedback" software -site:reddit.comExclude a noisy domain from a product search.Exclusion is a search instruction, not a measure of market competition.
filetype:"product feedback" filetype:pdfFind potentially useful research documents.PDF format does not imply authority, freshness or reusable rights.

Put no space between an operator and its value. Use ordinary straight quotes. Avoid building large opaque strings: change one constraint, inspect the output and record what changed.

Syntax was reviewed against Google Search help and Google’s site: documentation. The October 29, 2026 operation log records the actual query checks and their limits; search results can vary by region and time.

Read a Reddit discussion as a source

  1. Search the topic with site:reddit.com. Open the original thread, preserving its URL, date, context and the difference between a post and a reply.
  2. Look for the actual task, existing workaround and repeated obstacle. A request for a free tool differs from purchase intent for a paid workflow.
  3. Separate a direct observation from your inference. “One person manually prepares a weekly report” does not mean most SaaS teams do.
  4. Respect source access and quotation limits. Preserve a brief summary and a link; do not republish a thread as your own customer research.

For the teaching digest idea, a useful research card would ask who prepares the report, from which sources, what decision follows, and what fails in their current process. These are interview questions, not claims about an observed Reddit thread.

Keep an auditable research card

Record query, run date, location, result URL, source date, observed task, alternative explanation and next check. Search snippets are leads, not quotations from the full page or proof of demand.

Download the research card. Take the evidence to SaaS validation, then use keyword research to investigate candidate tasks.

Check your own seed keyword

Move from a proposed task to keyword evidence. Custom research follows the existing account and credit limits.
